This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for a seasoned development professional looking for a flexible working arrangement within a close-knit, professional and dynamic team. The Senior Development Manager/Director of External Relations (dependant on experience) will have the overall responsibility for Justice Centre Hong Kong’s resource mobilisation strategy to raise vital funds for our direct services and programmes to protect refugees and asylum seekers in Hong Kong.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with meticulous attention to detail who has experience in marketing and communications, formulating and executing fundraising strategies, donor acquisition and retention, writing successful bids and managing a portfolio of donors/clients.

Applications are welcome from candidates who have a background in sales and marketing, NGO or corporate fundraising and grant-writing. Experience in event management and communications would be seen as further assets.

About Justice Centre Hong Kong

Justice Centre is an independent, non-profit, non-government organisation, working to build a society where everyone has a fair chance at a safe and decent life.

We provide free specialist legal help to people experiencing forced displacement, while offering tailored welfare and psychosocial support to those affected by trauma and destitution. The people we support include refugees, asylum seekers, people affected by statelessness, survivors of torture, survivors of human trafficking, and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. Through strategic casework, research, training and technical assistance and community initiatives, we work to ensure that even the most marginalised members of Hong Kong society have equitable access to essential services and a voice in our society.

Purpose of position

The Senior Development Manager/Director of External Relations will manage the Partnerships & Development team to deliver a resource mobilization strategy that supports the sustained development and reputational growth of Justice Centre Hong Kong. This role reports to the Executive Director and sits within the Senior Management Team.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement medium term resource mobilisation strategies (i.e. 2-4 years) to support the financial sustainability of the organisation;  

  • Develop and manage donor relationships with organisational donors, foundations, corporate donors and individuals;  
  • Manage and oversee fundraising campaigns and events;  
  • Develop and implement strategy to grow Justice Centre’s brand recognition;
  • Manage and produce Justice Centre’s communication materials, including social media, email correspondence to supporters, website and Annual Report;
  • Develop concept notes, presentations, grant applications and associated budgets for submission to potential funders;  
  • Assemble and analysing grant information including project plan, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, and evaluation plans;  
  • Manage and report any funding updates due on grants or as requested by funders, including coordinating inputs from the services teams;  
  • Manage the utilisation of Justice Centre’s CRM system to log all grant and donor-related information as part of an effective donor relations management strategy. 
  • Manage the recruitment, selection, training, supervision and evaluation of part-time and full-time development staff and volunteers;
  • Be an ambassador for the organisation to positively engage more fundraising opportunities and promote the organisation;  
  • Contribute to developing organisational strategy, networking with strategic partners, and whole-of-office initiatives;
  • Contribute to organisational decision-making as a member of the Senior Management Team;
  • Act as Officer in Charge in the ED’s absence when assigned; and
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by or agreed with the Executive Director. 

Requirements

Essential

  • Significant experience in one of the following roles in either the NGO or corporate sector: marketing, advocacy or policy-writing, fundraising or grant-writing;
  • University degree from a recognized institution;
  • Proven track record of acquisition and retention of supporters/clients or funds raised;
  • Strong writing, editing, presentation and relationship management skills, including the ability to engage with senior-level stakeholders and corporate partners;
  • Self-starter, highly motivated and resourceful problem solver, with strong attention to detail;
  • Well-connected and expert networker;
  • Organised project manager with strong planning, budgeting and financial management skills;
  • Knowledge of the forced migration and/or human rights field;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Commitment to at least 4 days per week; and
  • Eligible to work in Hong Kong. We are unable to sponsor a working visa for this role.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of spoken and written Cantonese is highly desirable;
  • Experience of human rights and working with the NGO/not for profit sector an advantage;
  • Use of CRM databases such as Pipedrive; and
  • Knowledge of the corporate and philanthropic sector in Hong Kong.

 Remuneration & Benefits 

  • Monthly salary ranges between HK$28,000 to 36,000 (depending on experience);
  • Flexible work arrangements, including work from home and flexible hours;  
  • Any overtime is compensated through Time Off in Lieu (TOIL);
  • Generous annual leave; and
  • Private health insurance.
