A big thank you to Registered Psychologist and trauma counselling specialist Dina Chamberlain for her support of Justice Centre’s pilot counselling programme to help provide counselling to Justice Centre’s clients and nurture the next generations of trauma counsellors in Hong Kong.
Dina once served as a Chaplain at the South African National Defense Force. At various hospitals, she combined her expert knowledge in psychology and theology into her counselling practice, providing support and compassion to servicemen and survivors.
She moved to Hong Kong in 2006 and became a Registered Psychologist in 2009. Realising the service gaps for the refugee and asylum seeker community in Hong Kong, she began offering pro bono services and eventually started training other counsellors.
In such times of hardships, she encourages everyone and especially those who often feel powerless to make peace with ourselves and with factors outside of our own control, to invite calmness and more positive emotions into our mind and heart.
Trauma counselling is an important part of the assistance we offer to Justice Centre clients. Many of those who walk through our door have suffered extreme trauma and require counselling to enable them to speak about their experiences throughout their legal proceedings. For this, we are grateful of Dina and her contribution of expertise, passion and decades of experience to ensure that we offer the most suitable kind of support to those whose need it.
Our partnership with Dina is just one of the diversified forms of collaboration between Justice Centre Hong Kong and the professional communities in Hong Kong that helps serve the world’s most vulnerable and isolated, while echoing our shared vision of a fair and just society.
