Dear Clients, Partners, Supporters and Friends of Justice Centre,
After nearly 5 years of dedicated service, Piya Muqit has stepped down as the Executive Director of Justice Centre Hong Kong. Looking back, Piya’s contributions to, and leadership of, Justice Centre have been truly transformative. Now it is easy to forget how different Justice Centre was 5 years ago. Everyone is extremely grateful for Piya’s efforts. While we search for a new Executive Director, Melanie McLaren and Jessica Chan will be serving as Interim Co-Executive Directors.
Change can be challenging, but it is also an opportunity. All of us at Justice Centre — from our volunteers to the staff to the board — remain deeply committed to continuing to provide unparalleled services to our clients. But, as many of you know all too well, the legal, social and economic conditions faced by refugees, asylum seekers and others in need of protection in Hong Kong leaves much to be desired. As we begin our new chapter, we will use this change as an opportunity to reevaluate how we can best drive change to ensure our clients and members of other vulnerable populations in Hong Kong can live in a fair and inclusive society where even the most marginalized enjoy fundamental rights and access to justice.
But we cannot go on this journey alone. We need your help and continued support and would love to hear from you about what we do right, what we do wrong, and how we can do better. Please let me or Preston Cheung know if you can meet me, other members of the board and/or our management team in the month of February so that we can hear your insights as we create our next strategic plan.
On behalf of everyone at Justice Centre, I wish Piya best of luck in her future endeavors and I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards and Happy Lunar New Year,
Justice Centre Hong Kong
