As a female-led human rights organisation, Justice Centre Hong Kong work extensively to provide equality in access to justice. We believe fair access to justice for all means equipping all, both men and women, with a voice in our justice systems, so that even the most vulnerable can speak up for themselves and others. This vision coincides with the United Nations’ theme for #InternationalWomensDay this year – Gender equality benefits everyone.
60% of our clients experienced sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and 95% of those were women. The United Nations recently found that 90% of people around the world still hold a bias against women, despite decades of work to close the gender equality gap .
Hence, we join the UN General Assembly President Tijjani Muhammad-Bande’s call on everyone everywhere, to defend gender equality together as a necessity in upholding human rights .
It is still a long road ahead, but Justice Centre will walk with every stakeholder on this journey to make our society a fair and just place.
